McAdoo announces medical retirement

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas cornerback Quincey McAdoo, an All-SEC Freshman team selection in 2022, officially announced his medical retirement on Thursday.

McAdoo has been rehabilitating a serious neck injury since his rollover car accident on May 1, 2023, which kept him out all of last season.

A premier skill athlete from Clarendon, McAdoo had wanted to return to football, but could not get the medical clearance and was not on the Hogs’ spring roster.

“I’m at a loss for words on how blessed I am to become part of something so special,” McAdoo posted on social media. “Unfortunately, because of health reasons I am publicly announcing my medical retirement.”

McAdoo went on to thank his family and community, “the man above,” his teammates and coaches for his life in football.

McAdoo signed with the Razorbacks as a wide receiver, but with the team lacking depth in the secondary he switched to cornerback and burst onto the scene midway through 2022. McAdoo wound up with 30 tackles, 2 interceptions and 4 pass breakups. He had an interception and a punt block for a safety in a 21-19 loss to Liberty.

McAdoo was ejected for a targeting call in his final game, the Razorbacks 55-53 triple-overtime win over Kansas in the 2022 Liberty Bowl. However, the SEC announced in the days after the game that the targeting call made by a Pac-12 officiating crew was overturned and McAdoo would have been available for the 2023 season opener.

He was named to the All-SEC Freshman team that season, along with linebacker Chris Paul and long snapper Eli Stein.
