MORRILTON — Jimmie Sue Goates Hill

passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, in Morrilton, Ark. She was born on April 1, 1934, in Scottsvill­e, Ark., to James and Velma Goates. A graduate of Hector High School, Sue married her high school sweetheart Charles “Snort” Hill on February 27, 1952, and they celebrated 57 years of marriage together.

Mom was an amazing Christian wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r and a member of the Downtown Church of Christ for over 62 years. During those years she served as a Bible class teacher, visitation worker for the elderly, and served on many food committees. Many church members enjoyed her pies, cookies, and homemade bread.

Mrs. Hill also worked as the reading teacher’s aide at Reynolds Elementary School retiring after 22 years. Her hobbies were reading, sewing, and making quilts for her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. She was an avid fan of the MHS Devil Dogs and Hector Wildcats and spent many hours attending her children’s, grandchild­ren’s, and great-grandchild­ren’s activities from band and choir to athletics. Mrs. Hill was known as “Grandma Sue” to all the MHS volleyball and softball players and numerous other students and adults who she knew.

In 2015, Mrs. Hill received the Fox Ridge “Full of Life” “Spirit of Arkansas” award also sponsored by the Channel 7 television station. 501 Magazine named her the Conway County Cookie Lady in December 2023.

Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Rita (Mark) Fougerouss­e.

She is survived by her children, Vicky (Max) Ronk, Patti Hill, and Ricky (DeeDee) Hill; her grandchild­ren, Jim (Shawnna) Bowles, Jennifer (Anthony) Clayton, Amanda (Jeff) McCurrie, Alex (Courtney) Hill, Lauren (Kyle) Langston, Tanner (Lauren) Fougerouss­e, Erin Fougerouss­e, and Ty Johnston; great-grandchild­ren are Brooklyn Scherrey, Jackson Bowles, Maddox Clayton, William Bowles, Baylee McCurrie, Finley Langston, Remi McCurrie, Banner Langston, Owen Fougerouss­e, James William Hill, and Mollie Sue Fougerouss­e. Granddogs are Sissy Dog and Mercy Sue.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at The Morrilton Downtown Church of Christ with Mr. George Hulett and Mr. Mickey Burleson officiatin­g, Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Hector, Ark., by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton, Ark.
