ASUN JACKSONVIL­LE 6, CENTRAL ARKANSAS 5

The University of Central Arkansas came up short in a loss to Jacksonvil­le after allowing two late runs to drop the first game of a threegame weekend series Thursday at Bear Stadium in Conway.

After three scoreless innings, the Bears (11-14, 3-4 ASUN) fell behind as the Dolphins (12-13, 6-1) scored four runs in the fourth innings. Blake Edmonds, Josh Steidl and Chandler Howard each hit a home run to combine for four RBI.

UCA responded with an RBI single from Zeb Allen to cut into the lead before AJ Mendolia made it 4-2 in the fifth innings with an RBI groundout.

The Bears took their first lead in the seventh inning thanks to a Dolphin wild pitch and a two-run double by Bryce Cermenelli to go ahead 5-4.

But in the eighth and ninth innings, Jacksonvil­le scored on RBI singles from Cade Hentz and Justin Nadeau, respective­ly, to win 6-5.

SWAC ALCORN STATE 8, UAPB 7

Ty Boze scored off an error in the top of the 10th inning to complete a comeback for Alcorn State at the Torii Hunter Complex in Pine Bluff.

Garrett Palladino had three hits for the Braves, who trailed 6-1 after two innings but slowly chipped away at their deficit. Alcorn State (2-16, 2-5 Southweste­rn Athletic Conference) got back-to-back run-scoring singles from Jaylon Lucky and Dillon Crowell in the third to get within 6-3 before Palladino sent Jesse Burton home on a double in the fourth to climb within two.

UAPB (9-17, 0-7), which has lost nine straight games, scored a run in the fourth on a single from Edwin DeLaCruz to up its advantage to 7-4. But the Braves would record the final four runs of the game, capped by Boze’s winner, to take the opener in the three-game series.

Gavin Terry and Jalyn Williams both collected two hits for the Golden Lions. Williams had a two-run home run in the first inning as well. Carlos Rodriguez-Velez tacked on a three-run home run in the second for UAPB.

OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ARKANSAS-LITTLE ROCK 3, LINDENWOOD 2

Arkansas-Little Rock scored the final two runs of the game as it edged Lindenwood 3-2 on Thursday night at the Lou Brock Complex in St. Charles, Mo.

Ben Harmon picked up two RBI for UALR after hitting into a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth that scored Tyler Williams and Skyler Trevino. Williams scored from third, while Trevino was able to score from second following a throwing error by Lindenwood second baseman Anthony Stellato.

Williams opened the scoring for the Trojans in the first inning by hitting into a fielder’s choice that scored Alex Seguine from third, giving UALR (14-12, 3-1 Ohio Valley Conference) a 1-0 lead. A throwing error by Seguine in the bottom of the third allowed the Lions to tie the score at 1-1 as Evan Funkhouser scored from third base.

A single by left fielder Colin Shea later in the third scored Kam Edwards and gave Lindenwood (6-18, 1-3) a 2-1 lead. That score would hold until UALR regained the advantage in the sixth.

SUN BELT GEORGIA SOUTHERN 6, ARKANSAS STATE 2

Georgia Southern scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning on its way to a victory over Arkansas State in the first game of a three-game series Thursday night at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.

Leading 3-2 going into the seventh, Georgia Southern used three hits — including a triple from Daniel Haab and a double from Cade Parker — to score its three runs. Josh Tate also picked up a pair of RBI in the win for the Eagles (1312, 4-3 Sun Belt Conference).

Blake Burris and Brayden Caskey each had a single and a double for Arkansas State (15-13, 2-5). Ben Johnson earned the win for Georgia Southern, while Collin Maloney was charged with the loss for the Red Wolves. Jacob Phillips pitched the final three innings for the Eagles to pick up the save.
