■ Jesse Ventura, former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor, announced that he is partnering with a bakery to launch a brand of edible marijuana products because “cannabis saved my family’s life and now it’s time for me to return to the cannabis world.”
■ Travon Shaw, 35, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus 20 years, in the December 2021 killing of Keona Holley — a 39-yearold Baltimore police officer and mother of four.
■ Jose Ahumada filed a lawsuit against the Doubletree by Hilton Houston Brookhollow hotel, claiming that her 8-year-old daughter was sucked into an unsecured opening in the pool’s flow system that was 12 inches to 16 inches wide, ultimately killing her during a family trip.
■ Randall Woodfin, mayor of Birmingham, Ala., said the May closure of Birmingham-Southern College, a private liberal arts institution, is “disappointing and heartbreaking to all of us who recognize it as a stalwart of our community.”
■ Dylan Miller, 28, a former police officer in Loveland, Colo., accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl while on duty, faces up to life in federal prison as he is charged with depriving the teenager of her civil rights, the U.S. Justice Department said in a news release.
■ Errick Allen, 30, a former New York City police officer, was convicted of menacing, and acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges in the shooting of his childhood friend during a confrontation on Long Island.
■ Kevin Crye, a Shasta County, Calif., supervisor who voted to get rid of the rural county’s vote-counting machines, survived a recall effort by just 50 votes out of more than 9,300 ballots cast, according to official election results.
■ Steven Miles, premier of Queensland, Australia, said wildlife authorities are ready to train a couple “to be wildlife caregivers, to get them the right certification” to care for Molly — a magpie surrendered four years after the rescued bird bonded with their Staffordshire terrier.
