Winning streak of Sharks ends at LSU Eunice

A three-game winning streak for Southeast Arkansas College quickly turned into a two-game slide after the Sharks dropped a series at Louisiana State University Eunice this weekend.

LSU Eunice won the first game 11-2 on Friday, then beat SEARK 10-0. The third game to close the series was ongoing.

LSU Eunice (33-2) scored 7 runs in the fifth inning to distance itself in the first game. Wyatt Darby and Cameron Gonzalez, the first two batters in SEARK’s lineup, each finished with two hits. Darby walked twice.

Owen Stover gave up 3 earned runs on 6 hits in 4 1/3 innings, but suffered the loss.

The Bengals won Saturday’s first game in 6 innings, thanks in large part to the arm of (No. 34). He held the Sharks to 1 hit, while the Bengals collected 10 hits and took advantage of 2 Sharks errors.

Camden Carver delivered the only hit for SEARK (16-24). Garrett Folmar suffered the loss after giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 5 innings.

UAM, Arkansas Tech tie series

In Russellvil­le, the University of Arkansas at Monticello opened a Great American Conference series Friday with a 3-2 win over Arkansas Tech University. Tech responded by winning the first game of Saturday’s doublehead­er, 7-5. The second game was ongoing.

UAM (17-15, 13-7 Great American) trailed 2-1 before Logan Jones smashed a home run to right field in the fifth inning. Cole Cripps gave UAM a 3-2 lead in the eighth on a 1-run single.

Connor Irvine struck out 8 Wonder Boys in 7 2/3 innings and picked up the win. Kyle Roop earned the save.

In Saturday’s first game, Cade Cancilla homered for UAM, but Arkansas Tech smashed two home runs and broke a 4-all tie with a 3-run seventh inning. Grant Shahan struck out 4 in 2 innings for the win. Nick Mercado suffered the loss despite striking out 3 in 2 innings.

UAM sweeps series from ATU

In Monticello on Friday, UAM finished a conference sweep of Arkansas Tech by winning a doublehead­er, 4-3 in 8 innings and 6-3.

Bailey Camp hit a single in the extra inning to give UAM (17-19, 9-11) the first win Friday. Kyann Woods worked 3 innings for the win.

In Game 2 UAM responded to a 3-spot for Arkansas Tech (17-15, 9-11) in the fifth with 4 in the bottom half of the inning. Sophie Wood went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Jadyn Hart scored 2 runs for the Cotton Blossoms in the win.

UAM began the series with a 5-0 win Thursday.

The Blossoms will return to action Wednesday at home against Mississipp­i College.
