Sharks snap skids with 6-3 victory

-

Darron Degeyter homered and was one of three Southeast Arkansas College baseball players each to come up with 2 hits Tuesday in a 6-3 win over the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain at the Relyance Bank Athletic Complex’s Eddie Bryan Field.

The win ended a 3-game losing streak for SEARK (17-24), which was swept in a weekend series at Louisiana State University Eunice. The Sharks had won 3 straight before getting swept.

Degeyter launched his home run over left field in the second inning to put the Sharks (17-24) on the board. It was 2-0 in the third inning after Cameron Gonzalez stole third base and then scored on an error by the catcher.

Rich Mountain scored in each of the next two innings before SEARK regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Drake Lee line drive to center to score Wyatt Darby. Chris Clark then hit a triple in the same direction to make it a 4-2 lead.

A single pulled the Bucks within a run in the sixth, but Gonzalez responded with a 1-run double. Darby scored again on a bases-loaded walk for the final run.

Degeyter and Gonzalez each went 2 for 4, driving in a run. Darby was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored.

Trenton Zarechi struck out 2 and held Rich Mountain to an earned run on 4 hits in 5 innings for the win. Three other Sharks took the mound.

Rich Mountain (15-18) saw a 3-game winning streak come to a close. Aiden McGinnis, Diego Archila and Trevor Flake each had 2 hits.

SEARK will play a Friday-Saturday series at North Arkansas Community College in Harrison. That begins a 6-game road swing for the Sharks, who will also play a game at National Park College on April 8 and visit John Melvin College in an April 10 doubleheader.
