Amazon planning Jonesboro facility
Jonesboro will be the home of a new Amazon lastmile facility spanning 58,000 square feet, according to city development officials.
Mark Young, president of Jonesboro Unlimited and the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce, said the city appreciates the investment Amazon is making in Jonesboro and the confidence they have in the city and Craighead County.
“Their announcement acknowledges that Jonesboro is a great place to do business,” he said in a news release.
The new facility will be located off Interstate 555 on Moore Road, and renovations to the existing building are scheduled to start in the coming weeks as plans are in the early stages, according to the release.
Jonesboro officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the address of the facility or scope of investment.
Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon, said the company is grateful for the partnership with the city.
“We look forward to sharing more details about this facility and the good jobs we’ll offer in the future,” she said.
According to the release, Amazon currently employs 4,000 people in Arkansas and has invested $1.9 billion in compensation and infrastructure in the state since 2010. Most hourly employees in customer fulfillment and transportation earn between $17 and $28 per hour.
Last-mile facilities are the final stops in Amazon’s transportation network before packages are delivered to customers.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver said he believes Amazon’s investment in the city reflects the strength in its economy and the company’s confidence in future growth.
“This project illustrates the importance of our partnership between the city, the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce and private developers,” he said.
