SEARK completes Three Rivers sweep

-

Southeast Arkansas College finished a baseball sweep of Arkansas State University Three Rivers on Saturday and has won a season-high seven games in a row with one remaining in its first season.

SEARK defeated Three Rivers 11-9 on Friday and took a Saturday doubleheader from the Eagles, 5-3 and 2-0. All games were played at Eddie Bryan Field in Pine Bluff after Saturday’s games were moved due to inclement weather in the Malvern area.

Cameron Gonzalez went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and Darron Degeyter went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI in Friday’s game to lead the winning Sharks (26-29), who scored 3 runs in the second inning to overcome a 3-2 hole and continued the outburst with 4 runs in the third. Degeyter hit 2 doubles, while Drake Lee and Gonzalez knocked 1 each.

Five Sharks took the mound, but Owen Stover earned the win with a strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.

In Saturday’s first game, a 3-run homer gave the Eagles the early 3-0 lead. SEARK scored in the second and added 4 in the third, aided by Lee’s 3-run homer over right field. Camden Carver, Logan Deloach and Lee each had 2 hits for SEARK, and Garrett Folmar struck out 6 and allowed 8 hits in a 7-inning victory.

Lee accounted for all the last game’s scoring with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first. Dylan Dronet held Three Rivers to just 1 hit and struck out 10 in the 7-inning victory, while SEARK totaled 3 hits.

The Sharks will conclude the season at 2 p.m. Tuesday at University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena.
