‘Rocky Horror Show’ auditions set
Auditions for the musical “The Rocky Horror Show” will be at 2 p.m. June 22 in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater at the Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas , 701 S. Main St. The doors will open at 1:30 p.m.
Thosee who auition must be 18 or older. No acting experience is required. Performances will be at the same location Oct. 18-19, and Oct. 25-26, according to a news release.
The ARTx3 Campus theater program is looking for performers to join the cast. “Don’t dream it — be it!” is the theme of the audition event.
“This show is going to be such a unique experience for all those involved, including the performers,” said J. Tyler Lewis, the production’s director. “Be a part of this crazy and wild show by lending your talents at ARTx3 in the Catherine M. Bellamy Theater.”
“In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter,” according to a synopsis of the play. “Brad and Janet meet a houseful of wild characters, including a rocking biker and a creepy butler. Through elaborate dances and rock songs, Frank-N-Furter unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named ‘Rocky’.”
“The Rocky Horror Show,” with music, lyrics and book by Richard O’Brien, debuted in London’s West End in 1973. It was soon adapted into the 1975 musical film, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
“Complete with sass from the audience, cascading toilet paper, and an array of other audience participation props, this deliberately kitschy rock ’n’ roll sci-fi gothic musical is more fun than ever,” according to the release.
Those auditioning are encouraged to pre-register but walk-ins will be accepted. Those who audition are expected to research this show to understand what may be expected of them. If cast, performers should be prepared to wear revealing clothing.
