MARCELLO MASTROIANN­I

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Mastroiann­i, a left-hander and Georgetown University-recruit, went 8-1 with a 1.77 ERA. In 47 1/3 innings, he struck out 65, walked 12 and allowed 31 hits. He began the season with a five-inning no-hitter against Red Bank. Mastroiann­i also picked up the win in Ranney’s 4-3 win over Bishop Eustace in a NJSIAA Nonpublic South B semifinal with three scoreless innings of relief. He was the starting pitcher against Red Bank Catholic in both the Monmouth County Tournament and Shore Conference Tournament championsh­ip games. He got a no-decision in both games.

JACKSON HINCHLIFFE

School: Rumson-Fair Haven.

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Hinchliffe, a right-hander and a Richmond University-recruit, Hinchliffe became RumsonFair Haven’s ace in the last half of the season and was a key component in Rumson-Fair Haven’s drive to the NJSIAA Group 2 championsh­ip game. It was the first time Rumson-Fair Haven has advanced to a NJSIAA state group championsh­ip game. He was 6-2 with a 1.00 ERA and 3-1 in the state tournament with a perfect game against Hamilton North in a Central Group 2 first-round game. In 49 innings, he allowed 34 hits, struck out 63 and walked nine. He was the tough-luck losing pitcher in the Bulldogs’ 1-0 defeat to Pascack Hills in the Group 2 state championsh­ip game.

CHRIS LEVONAS

School: Christian Brothers Academy.

Year: Junior.

Highlights: A Wake Forest University-recruit, the right-handed Levonas went 5-1 with a 1.14 ERA. In 42 2/3 innings, Levonas struck out 73, walked 12 and allowed 20 hits. He had five games where he had 10 or more strikeouts and another where he had nine. That included a 10-strikeout performanc­e against Donovan Catholic in a Shore Conference Tournament quarterfin­al. He pitched one run, two-hit ball in five innings in that outing. Levonas was named the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n Class A North Pitcher of the Year.

KYLE KOLANS

School: Point Pleasant Beach

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Kolans helped Point Pleasant Beach win the NJSIAA Central Group 1 championsh­ip for the second straight season. A right-hander, Kolans went 8-1 with a 1.74 ERA. Among his wins was a completega­me four-hitter in a 2-1 win over NJSIAA Central Group 3 champion Middletown North and a completega­me six-hitter in a 4-3 win over Toms River North in an Ocean County Tournament first-round game. He also pitched five-hit ball over 5 1/3 innings in the Garnet Gulls’ 4-1 win over Middlesex in the Central Group 1 championsh­ip game. In 48 1/3 innings, Kolans struck out 54, walked 17 and allowed 37 hits. He was the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n Class B Central Pitcher of the Year.

CHARLIE MEGLIO

School: Jackson Memorial.

Year: Senior.

Highlights: A first team All-Shore selection for the second straight season, Meglio helped Jackson Memorial earn a share of the Shore Conference Class A South championsh­ip with Southern and Brick Memorial. It was the fifth straight season Jackson Memorial has earned at least a share of the divisional title. Meglio hit .368 (25-for-68) with nine home runs, five doubles and 38 RBI. He had two homers, including a gamewinnin­g grand slam in the Jaguars’ 10-6 win over eventual NJSIAA Nonpublic South A finalist St. Joseph (Metuchen). Meglio concluded his career with 97 hits, 20 home runs and 106 RBI. He had at least 32 RBI in all three of his varsity seasons. Meglio, who will play collegiate­ly at Campbell University, was the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n co-Class A South Hitter of the Year.

DOM MASINO

School: Central

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Masino was hot at the plate all season. He hit .557 (39-for-70) out of the leadoff spot in the Golden Eagles’ order with seven home runs, nine doubles, a triple and 18 RBI. He had a .644 on base percentage and scored 28 runs. Masino was named the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n co-Class A South Hitter of the Year. He will play collegiate­ly at Kean University.

GABE CAVAZZONI

School: Wall.

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Cavazzoni, a Seton Hall University­recruit, concluded an outstandin­g three-year varsity career, by hitting .415 (39-for-94) with two home runs, 10 doubles, three triples, 19 stolen bases and 18 RBI. He finished his career with 103 hits and 65 RBI. Cavazzoni was named the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n’s co-Class A Central Hitter of the Year.

OUTFIELD

A.J. GRACIA

School: Ranney

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Gracia caps a sensationa­l scholastic career by being named the Asbury Park Press’ Player of the Year. A Duke University-recruit, Gracia, the leadoff batter in Ranney’s high-powered lineup, hit .500 (34for-68) with 12 home runs, seven doubles, a triple and 32 RBI. He also scored 44 runs. It is the second straight season Gracia has hit 12 home runs. He finished his career with 29 homers - one off the Shore Conference record of 30 set by 2007 Ocean graduate Keith Weinkofsky. Gracia also had 66 stolen bases for his career and hit .503 (85-for-169) and scored 110 runs for his career. He was also Ranney’s closer on the mound and had 46 strikeouts and a 2.33 ERA in 27 innings. Gracia was the winning pitcher in Ranney’s 6-5 win over Red Bank Catholic in the Monmouth County Tournament championsh­ip game in the Panthers’ 2-1 win over Rumson-Fair Haven in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinal. He was named the Shore Baseball Coaches Associatio­n Class B North Hitter of the Year.

GAVIN DEGNAN

School: Donovan Catholic.

Year: Senior.

Highlights: Degnan was one of the Shore’s best players all season as he helped Donovan Catholic go unbeaten in Shore Conference Class B South and win the Ocean County Tournament for the first time in its first appearance in the OCT championsh­ip game. He hit .507 (38-for-75) with eight home runs, six doubles, two triples and 26 RBI. He also scored 38 runs. Degnan had game-winning home runs in the seventh inning or later in tournament games against Central (OCT quarterfin­al) and Manasquan (SCT round of 16 within a five-day span in early May. COACH OF THE YEAR:

Ryan McCabe (Middletown North):

McCabe has done as good a job as any coach in the Shore Conference the last two seasons.

Last year, the Lions won the NJSIAA Group 3 championsh­ip for the program’s first-ever state group baseball championsh­ip with a magical end of the season 12-game winning streak after the team was 9-10 and did not qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament.

This season, Middletown North returned just a shade over five innings of pitching and got off to a 2-5 start.

However, with a pitching staff, led by sophomores Gabe Ahlemeyer and Zachary Hampton and a lineup that returned several key players from last season, including senior shortstop Ryan Frontera, Middletown North, once again, went on a run and repeated as Central Group 3 champions.

The Lions, who finished 17-9, also finished second overall in Shore Conference Class A North and won the Class A North public school divisional title and advanced to the Shore Conference Tournament quarterfin­al, where they were defeated by four-time SCT champion Red Bank Catholic.
