WALL - Doug W. Mitchell, 81, of Wall, passed away on June 24, 2023. Doug was born in London England in 1942 and raised in the Forest Gate section of London. After graduating from Whitehall School and Goodwin Road School, he worked in the maritime industry in the North Sea and then, after emigrating to the US, in the Pacific off the coast of Alaska. After relocating to New Jersey, he met and married his beloved wife of 50 years, Kathleen (Ryan) in 1970. Doug became an American citizen in 2002, maintainin­g joint citizenshi­p for the rest of his life. He was a long-time member of the Asbestos Workers of Philadelph­ia Union, with long-term assignment­s at Ciby-Geigy and Schering Plough among others. Doug was an avid cyclist, beginning his bicycle racing career at the early age of 11 or 12 in England and continuing well into his 60’s. He was an active long-time member of the Atlantic Bicycle Club, serving as its president for over 12 years. Doug and Kathleen enjoyed travelling throughout the USA and back to his home in England, with Doug always finding a place to enjoy a ride on his bike. After retirement, Doug and Katheen continued to live in the Sterling Woods section of Wall Township, their home since 1974, but enjoyed happy travels in their RV, especially to the Florida Keys.

Doug was predecease­d by his wife, Kathleen, his parents, Walter and Lilian Mitchell, and his brother, Peter. He is survived by his sisters, Pat Pekarsky of Florida, Bessie Miazga of Indiana, Elaine Catlin (Chris) of London, England, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Mary Ryan of Manasquan as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A celebratio­n of Doug’s life will be held on Thursday July 13, 2023, from 1-2 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Rd, Manasquan, NJ 08736. Interment will be private.
