Irene Patricia “Cookie” (nee Spicacci) Mahon

Irene Patricia “Cookie” (nee Spicacci) Mahon passed away peacefully on December 2nd 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Cookie as her family and friends knew her was born and raised in Downtown Jersey City. She graduated Ferris High School in 1960. In 1964, she married Frank Mahon, the man she had known since fourth grade and who pre deceased her in 2020. She is also pre deceased by her loving parents, Pasquale & Irene Spicacci and her beloved sisterin-law, Albina Spicacci.

Cookie worked for Manufactur­ers Hanover Trust in NYC before starting her family; afterwards she worked for Sears in Staten Island. In 1986, she had to quit her job and become the primary caretaker for her husband for over 30years.

Having raised her children on Staten Island and after her husband’s accident, they moved to Toms River in 1989. The last three years she had lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Manahawkin.

Surviving are her loving children, Daughter Kellie and son-in-law James Colon, Son Sean (retired NYPD detective), son Keith and daughter-in-law Denise, her beloved grandchild­ren Nicole & her husband Phil Preston, Frank and his wife Sarah Caristo, Michael & his wife Crystal Mahon, Stephen Mahon & his fiancé Jennifer, Ryan Mahon, Danielle & Luke Mahon. She is also survived by four great grandchild­ren who she would always call “her pumpkins” Joseph and Zachary Preston & Richard and Elena Mahon.

She has two wonderful brothers who survive her. John and sister in law Patricia Spicacci & Dennis Spicacci.

Cookie is also survived by her dear literally lifelong friend (60+years) Patricia & Joseph Patti and family. Also her step granddaugh­ters Nichole Colon & Michelle Spargifior­e and their families. And her many nieces and nephews who were always close to her heart.

A Memorial Gathering to honor Cookie will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2023 from 2pm to 6pm, with a prayer service at 2:30pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River. A committal service will be held on Monday, December 11 at 11:30 am at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in her name to the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation.
