Bobby Brown, TLC, more playing big Pass the Mic Live! in Newark

- Chris Jordan

It's Bobby Brown's prerogative to Pass the Mic.

Brown, Boyz II Men, TLC, Method Man & Redman, Faith Evans, Total, and “special surprise guests” will play the second Pass The Mic Live! hosted by DJ Cassidy on May 11 at the Prudential Center in Newark

Pass the Mic was born during the days of the pandemic, and featured more than 200 of hip-hop and R&B's biggest stars online and on BET. DJ Cassidy brought the show live to the Prudential Center last May for the first time.

“Last year, I took the show on the road and brought Pass the Mic Live to Prudential Center where it sold out its first arena show with an attendance of 13,000 people,” said Cassidy in a statement. “Every day since, I've replayed that dream come true in my mind minute by minute. In one sense, I never imagined my living room series turned television show would grow into a live concert event of that magnitude. In another sense, I imagined it precisely. Well, this year, we are back with another legendary one time only experience in the venue that started it all with a truly massive lineup of my hiphop and R&B heroes.”

Brown, who formerly lived in Medford with his late wife Whitney Houston, begins an extended run with New Edition at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas starting Feb. 28. The group has six shows scheduled through March 9.

Also, Brown will participate in the Celebration of Serenity fundraiser March 4 at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles. The event raises funds for the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House group, which supports those affected by domestic violence.

Tickets, the price of which have not been released, will be available presale for American Express credit card members starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, and through a promoter presale with the passcode “SJPRESENTS” and venue presale with the passcode “PruMothersDay” starting 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of Brown and Houston, passed away in July 2015 to domestic violence, states the group on its website. She died at the age of 22 nearly six months after being found unconscious in a bathtub in her Georgia home.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, to the general public through Ticketmaster.
