Raymond Joseph Doucette
SEVIERVILLE - Raymond Joseph Doucette (75), of Sevierville, TN (formerly, Whiting, NJ and Rumford, ME) was called home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday evening March 12, 2024. Ray was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
He was preceded in death by Frank Doucette (father), Marie Doucette (mother), Lee Doucette (brother) and Harry Doucette (son).
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bonnie Doucette, and his three daughters, Kara Murtha (Sean), Dr. Stephanie Whaley (Mitchell), and Dawn Doucette (Brent Whaley) as well as his four grandkids Mackenzie Murtha, Madison Murtha, Raelyn Whaley, and Abram Whaley.
Also surviving him are his two sisters, Sandra Pomerleau (Eddie) and Pearl Snowman (Larry) and sister-in-law Brenda Doucette, and his nephews and nieces, Tim Pomerleau, Mark Pomerleau, Lisa Redmond, Katie Marr, and Andrew Snowman.
Ray was a proud Vietnam veteran who was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 2*; Purple Heart Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; and Rifle Marksman Badge. For 34 years, Ray traveled all over the world working for AT&T. After that, he continued in the telecom industry until his retirement in June of 2013.
Ray was born and raised in Maine but lived most of his life in New Jersey. After retirement, he and Bonnie moved to Tennessee so they could be closer to family. He cherished spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, working on his motorcycles, and landscaping. He was a collector of many things, always telling us, “It’ll be worth something someday.” Ray lived a life of service, always asking, “Ya need a hand?” His voice, his laughter, his jokes, his phone calls, his letter-like text messages always ending in “Love, Dad” will forever be treasured and incredibly missed. He inspired us all to be better people, to never leave something unsaid, to say please and thank you, to say your prayers, to always kiss your spouse goodnight and to say I love you. Although Ray left us too soon, forever would not have been long enough.
Visitation to be held at Atchley Funeral Home (118 E. Main St. Sevierville, TN 37876) on Thursday, March 28th from 4-6pm, service to follow. His final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Flowers are appreciated, but plants or trees are preferred, and will be planted at their home in his honor.
