FREEHOLD - William “Bill” Kerner of Freehold, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 16th, six days before his 94th birthday. He was born on April 22nd, 1930, to Esther and Edward Kerner in Newark, NJ, and was raised in the Vailsburg section. He attended Our Lady of the Valley High School and graduated from Seton Hall University. He went on to serve bravely in the Korean War as a CIC agent stationed in Berlin, Germany. Upon his return to the States, he began working with Prudential, where he met his wife, Marian. They married in 1957 and had four children.

Bill’s dedication to his family was evident - he coached and was president of the Freehold Township Little League, was active in the Parent-Teacher Organizati­on, and was president of the Freehold Township High School Booster Club. This commitment continued with his grandchild­ren. You could always find him seated at the end of the soccer field or the swimming pool, cheering them on.

Bill loved sports. He was an avid baseball player and a loyal fan of the New York Yankees. He was also a dedicated St. Rose of Lima Church member, attending mass multiple times a week.

He is predecease­d by his wife Marian, daughter Marianne, and son Kevin. He is survived by his daughters, Kim Richard (John) and Ellen Kerner. He is also survived by his five grandchild­ren, John, Jillian (Anthony), Melanie (Matthew), Billy, and Christophe­r, and his great-granddaugh­ters, Stella and Gianna.

He will be deeply missed.

A viewing will be held Sunday, April 21st, from 4-6 p.m. at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 22nd at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima, 16 Mc Lean Street, Freehold, NJ 07728. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Freehold.
