INJURY CONCERNS

-

CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

McCaffrey stayed healthy in ’22 and put up 1,880 scrimmage yards and 13 touchdowns (throwing for another). That said, we’re still talking about a player who has missed 23 games over the past three seasons.

JONATHAN TAYLOR, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

Last season’s consensus No. 1 pick in fantasy suffered an ankle injury in Week 4 and missed the next two games. He reinjured the ankle in Week 15, sat out the rest of the season and had arthroscopic surgery in January. Taylor is expected to be healthy to start the season.

JOE MIXON, CINCINNATI BENGALS

Mixon took a step back last season. In addition to missing two games due to a concussion, he was very inconsistent. He scored nine total touchdowns, but five came in one game.

DERRICK HENRY, TENNESSEE TITANS

Henry missed just one game last season, rushing for 1,538 yards and 13 TDs. But it was also his third season in the past four with 300-plus carries, and he’s 29.

J.K. DOBBINS, BALTIMORE RAVENS

Dobbins not only missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL but also was brought back very slowly in ’22 and lacked the explosiveness he showed as a rookie. He did finish the season stronger than he started it, though.

BREECE HALL, NEW YORK JETS

Hall had the third-most fantasy points among RBs in Weeks 5-6. A week later, however, a torn ACL ended his season. The Jets do expect him to be ready for the start of the season. He’s a valuable weapon, provided he’s back at 100 percent.

JAVONTE WILLIAMS, DENVER BRONCOS

There were great expectations for Williams in 2022. Alas, he suffered a major knee injury (he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee and damaged other ligaments) early in the season. Even if he is ready for the start of the season, the severity of the injury means it might take him a while to return to form.

DAMIEN HARRIS, BUFFALO BILLS

Harris missed six games due to injury last season, but the Patriots’ decision to not re-sign him had more to do with the emergence of Rhamondre Stevenson. He may not get as many goal-line opportunities, but a healthy Harris should be productive.

RASHAAD PENNY, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

Penny was Seattle’s No. 1 running back following a solid end to the 2021 season, and he got off to a good start. Then he broke his fibula in Week 5, and his season was over. He’ll get a fresh start in Philadelphia, where he’ll run behind a much better line.

ELIJAH MITCHELL, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Mitchell sprained his MCL in Week 1 — which led the team to trade for Christian McCaffrey. When Mitchell returned late in the season, it was clear that the 49ers planned to keep him busy despite McCaffrey’s presence. Mitchell will get touches if healthy.
