- Bud Lichtenwalner

- By Daniel Limo

R.W.

Bud Lichtenwalner avidly captures his experiences with nature in realistic landscapes that evoke an uplifting and traditional narrative, often with a soft and emotional driving atmosphere. His works can be described as possessing a 'gentle realism,' the works are rendered from his time spent in nature walks, referencing elements of memory and record. Pen and ink were his earlier specialties as well as his background in architecture, a field he excelled in. Nowadays, Lichtenwalner's creative impulses and artistic prowess have found a home in acrylic on canvas. On the first glimpse of Lichtenwalner's pieces, you can't help but be taken aback by the immense level of detail in each painting. No element is too small, not even a blade of grass, to be undeserving of his full attention. He demonstrates a clever use of lighting that he meticulously incorporates in every inch of his painting to enhance perspective and distance. Lichtenwalner is an artist whose works embody his profound love and appreciation for nature and also evinces years of technique refinement to become a master artist.

Tell us a bit about your lifestyle and what influence it has on your work?

“My lifestyle is a rather relaxed affair, with traditional surroundings. I enjoy hiking on the trails at a local Environmental Center, enjoying the freedom of 'getting away from it all' and just immersing myself in the simplicity of nature.”

When did you start capturing nature through art?

“The first experience was in art class, both private and in the gifted program. In 7th – 12th grade. That was the painting of a seascape with a palette knife and brushes. I won my first place award for art in the second grade.”
