- Karin Monschauer
Karin Monschauer is a contemporary artist hailing from Luxembourg, with an inclination for geometric abstractions, embracing the freedom for experimentation in digital art printing on canvas. Her large scale color fields vividly pop through two-dimensional stages and shape patterns that form balance, and depth through the delicate layering of thin color washes. Inspired by natural elements, and social themes surrounding global peace Monschauer has the ability to create the appearance of a 'glow' in her work, influencing a sense of a tranquil color effect.
Congratulations on being one of ATIM's Top 60 Masters of 2020! What was the experience like painting the works shown in the publication?
"For me, it is a great joy to paint. And it's like playing. I like to play with numbers, and my works always have a logical sequence of geometrical forms and colors, from which beautiful patterns emerge."
Could you tell us a bit more about your work and your influences?
"I don't have a proper theme. I want to create joy and harmony in the people who are looking at my art. I find a synergic way to art with colors and forms. Starting from the needlework technique, I decided to put my chromatic geometrical shapes artistically. My art is made of geometrical figures which are filled with many chromatic effects. It's the harmony of these colors that brings light in people and the joy of living. My abstract forms are vivid and real more contemporary than the art movement of the last century. I'm inspired by Maurits Cornelis Escher and Friedensreich Hundertwasser: my favorites. In addition, Sol LeWitt, Frank Stella, Piet Mondrian, and Sonia Delauny have recently joined me."
Be it the freedom of color and shapes in their whimsical dance or how the colors awaken dormant emotions, Monschauer’s portfolio has a way of captivating her audience.
