- Liv Babra

- By Daniel Limo

Originally from Kenya, and now residing in Canada, Sculptor, Educator, Environmentalist, and Founder of StudioLiv, Liv Babra displays an elegant result of large scale wood and abstract stone sculptures that reference the environment and philosophical concepts. Often showing the different grains and transition of wood, coupled with soft curves and geometric shapes, his work shows a noticeable relationship between biological factors and metaphysical geometry.

Babra uses wood and stone, each layer carved with a purpose and thoughtprovoking meaning behind it. Babra's ''Gaia's Tear'' series is intricately designed to exhibit the toxic process our waters and lands are going through and choosing to use water as the element that correlates with the tears used as the metaphor for environmental pain. The sculptor draws his Inspiration from his childhood memories made in the grand foothills of Kilimanjaro and his professional exposure to the fine art of African carvings. Dedicating his life to feeding his creativity and those of his students, his creative thinking courses encourage risk and mental clarity for supreme creative endeavors.

INSPIRATION

“Inspiration comes like a shower of meteors. In my wonderment, I catch a few glimpses and pondering which one will be the perfect creation.”
