- Parul Srivastava

- By Daniel Limo

Based in Singapore and born in India, Parul Srivastava displays an open-minded approach to abstract expressionism inspired by nature and self-exploration. Srivastava paints uninhibited vivid color combinations, with the provoking ability to ignite emotions. Often overlapping oil and acrylics, she exhibits a heavily textured visual map of emotional affirmations. The title for each of her pieces follows with contemplative statements such as "Search For Self." She leans towards vibrant hues, bold brush strokes, and sporadic splashes with a multi-colored background. There is no rigidity in her paintings, preferring to let her whims control the artistic process. Even so, she displays a solid mastery of colors and techniques. Her layering emboldens each base, and she skillfully uses lighting to make her pieces immersive to the observer.

Her culturally rich background has influenced her path as an educator in creating a casual atmosphere for both adult and children painting workshops. Srivastava leads a volunteer program that functions to donate art to senior citizens and to promote social welfare.

“We shall recognize the beauty of life in its most natural form, and enthuse to live it to fullest despite how far we have come with our achievements or failures in the materialistic race. True happiness is when you are what you are, and free to express, and this true happiness is the true fortune.”
