- Steve Lyons

- By Satine Razio

American painter and gallerist Steve Lyons explores the freedom of "sculptural paintings." Using a mastered impasto technique, he paints suggestive elements, drips, and figurative silhouettes, that blend together, in his abstract compositions, which feel like representations of abstract sculptures on canvas. His muted and light paintings are a perfect example of the process-led abstraction that resonates with the mastered thick impasto techniques of the 15th century, brimming with visceral shape patterns, and the residue of bold brushstrokes and automatic painting. Through each of his series, his audience will find the concept and approach to painting is explored, reinvented, and intensely refreshing.

“I am an 'emotional' artist who creates from a highly conceptual context and strong visual and sensory memory. I most often create through concept and metaphor, and my goal is always the same - to translate the energy of a subject through color and textured dimensionality.”

Lyons' contemplative visual expressions that he brings into large-scale canvases evoke the curious mood, life experience, and human interactions. Thought-provoking titles welcome his viewer to create their own interpretation of his soothing bursts of color. Lyons has led a successful career, attracting collectors Internationally, his authentic and liberated approach to art is a magnet to those who recognize his mastered technique.
