WHO DUNNIT: J.W. and Nelson produced the stylish and functional vases that we still love today. WHEN: The Mccoys began manufacturing the Scandia line in 1972. LEGACY: J.W. Mccoy started making pottery back in the mid1800s, and his son Nelson took up the tradition. Nelson’s pottery company operated 57 years, until it was sold in 1967 to the Mount Clemens Pottery Company. Even then, Mccoy remained president. TRUTH BE TOLD: In the 1990s, controversy developed over the use of the Mccoy trademark, as individuals sought to trademark the Mccoy name at the same time that the final owner of the company, Designer Accents, applied.
