Make the most of your dining room during the hosting season with these style and function insights.

During this season of turning our attention to

hosting and entertaining, the dining room naturally comes back into focus. This bright and expansive dining room designed by Natalie Myers, owner and principal of Veneer Designs in Los Angeles, sets a great standard for any updated midcentury dining room. The 1963-built ranch in Mandeville Canyon had great bones, and a few smart additions and a carefully curated selection of furnishings give the open-plan space a heart-of-the-home appeal.

STYLE BOOSTERS

While this home certainly has its share of show-stopping architectural elements, Natalie shares how any homeowner can boost the architectural feel of a less flashy mid mod space. “Monochromatic is a great way to play with midcentury patterns and shapes without being too loud. Stick to the black/white/gray/wood color tones and get a little crazy with layering patterns.”

FUNCTION MATTERS

A recess beside the fireplace was the perfect spot for Natalie to add a custom built-in sideboard. Its simple design focuses on a beautiful wood finish, which gleams in the mostly white room and complements rather than detracts from the striking brick and tile.
