BACKGROUND: Nestled in the Montclair Hills above Oakland, the home offers sweeping views of the East Bay. The design was cited in Charles Jencks’ 1972 book Adhocism: The Case for Improvisat­ion. The kitchen renovation garnered Andrew Lee Architectu­re an AIA East Bay 2014 Design Award Citation Award. COLOR SCHEME: Warm and cool wood tones with sienna accents INNOVATIVE IDEA: Custom cabinetry with shutters that can open up or close off the kitchen at the homeowners’ discretion
