A fi re fl ickering in a Malm fi replace.

A hot toddy while you kick back in an Eames lounge chair. The crackle and pop of an old record playing while you wrap presents on your Hey Wake dining table. The best thing about winter is being stuck inside and staring at all your mod treasures. Ok, sure, we’ve been home a lot more these days. But for me, the spirit of winter is one of slowing down, stopping for a bit and soaking up the feeling of appreciation. It’s gratitude for what we have and how far we’ve come and a savoring of all the hard work and tenacity we’ve shown throughout the year, which has brought us to this fi nal season.

This issue is a celebration of the hard work of several homeowners, designers, makers and builders. It’s fi lled with homes where months of blood, sweat, tears and choices have produced lovingly restored and revived mid century gems. It’s fi lled with art and creations of craftsmen dedicated to producing beautiful objects that might become the collectibles of tomorrow.

I myself will be slowing down a bit too. By the time this issue goes to print, I’ll probably be doing my own savoring and appreciating of the new little life I’ve been working hard to produce all year. I’ll be spending this winter at home with her and leaving this magazine in the lovely expert hands of my trusted companion and joy of a person, Lindsay Jarvis, who’ll man the ship for a few issues while I’m gone.

So cheers to a hard- fought year and cheers to the continued strength to keep fi ghting into the next. I hope these pages inspire you to celebrate and appreciate what you’ve created in 2020: Maybe it’s an updated room or two, maybe it’s a new home altogether or maybe it’s a vision of what you’ll manifest for next year.
