It’s been a more than a year

- Jickie Torres

since the global pandemic forced us all to get a lot more acquainted with our own backyards. And, the truth is, I bet for most of us there’s no going back.

Whether it’s with dinner on the barbecue, coffee on the deck or settling in with a great book on the outdoor lounge chair, I’d also bet many of us have realized how enjoyable being stuck outside can be and how much we may have undervalued our outdoor spaces.

So whether you’re guilty of some of the above or you’re one of the lucky ones who has always enjoyed your garden and in fact have continually sought ways to improve it, this issue should be packed with inspiration and insight. From sleek and polished to lush and layered, from water- wise landscapes to verdant, jungle- like gardens, we tour incredible mid century exteriors that offer a little something for everyone’s wish list.

We also cover plant plans, hardscaping ideas and a few DIY projects to keep your summer weekends nice and productive. And let’s not forget the curb appeal. Maybe this is the year you revive your porches and front entryways or repaint your exterior. We’ve got you covered. I hope you find plenty of motivation and actionable ideas that bring you and keep you outside in the sunshine.
