Atomic Ranch

Editor’s Letter

- Jickie Torres

WHILE MANY OF US TEND TO PUT A HALT TO THE HAMMERING AND NAILING OF RENOVATIONS AND REMODELS during the winter, that doesn’t mean that the work of beautifying our homes stops. Instead, we shift to decorative updates, shopping and the kind of nest feathering that happens when we prepare to host, gather and spend time enjoying our homes during the holiday season.

And what a beautiful time it is: home projects in the vein of holiday decorating and baking, weekends around the fi replace, playing vintage records and making memories in your Mid Century Modern home that add to its story.

The homes in this issue all have a unique story to tell. From a house designed as a love letter to one architect’s wife, to an Eichler literally rebuilt from the ashes, our features delve into the custom elements of any mod home, whether built 60 years ago or today. We also get into the merry- making business and offer a list of gift ideas for any mod lover and some tips for holiday entertaining with our new columnist Robert Maurer of Commuter Industries ( his home was also on the cover of our Fall 2019 issue).

Last and certainly not least, I’ve been brewing up a little something special that is part storytelling and part love letter: a new Atomic Ranch book! Atomic Ranch Remodeled Marvels: Understanding, Planning and Designing Your Next Mid Century Transformation gathers all the insight, advice and inspiration you need to tackle your renovation and get the results you’ve been dreaming of. I can’t wait for you to see it, and I hope it might fi nd its way onto a bookshelf or coffee table in your home this winter.
