David Skelley, owner of Boomerang for Modern, was introduced to Mid Century Modern design through his friend’s collection in the mid- 1970s. For David, it was a pivotal moment.

“Something just clicked,” he said. “I fell in love with every facet of the style— from its optimism to the exploration of thennew materials and the visual lightness of the pieces.”

He began curating his own collection of Mid Century Modern pieces. The collection was simply for personal enjoyment, although David dreamed of building it into something more.

David’s company was caught in the tailwinds of the Mid Century Modern design surge, propelling him to the forefront of the movement. He explains that as a result, “I made the big decision to take Boomerang Modern from San Diego to Palm Springs. It was my best move ever!”

David’s store is now a bustling destination for Mid Century Modern lovers. As the store’s curator, he’s able to preview some of the finest pieces available. Through his reputation, he’s able to acquire items right from the original families— which means he gets the bonus of the wonderful stories that go with them.
