Five file for November special election
Five residents have filed to run in the November 2018 special election in Lakeway.
The city is holding a special election for two council places, and both terms expire in May 2020. The deadline to file was Aug. 20.
The candidates are Glenda Foreman Engert, 85, a 24-year resident of Lakeway; Betty Haley, 76, who has lived in Lakeway for nearly 12 years; Laurie Higginbotham, 44, a nine-year resident of the city; Louis Mastrangelo, 56, who has lived in the city for about five years; and Wendi Severance, 51, who has spent 22 years in city.
Council Member Dwight Haley and a vacancy on the council are up for election this term. Haley said he is not planning to seek another term.
The special election will be Nov. 6. The city runs on a plurality-vote basis, meaning the two top candidates who receive the most votes of the five will be elected to the positions.
All council members are elected at large. The council is made up of seven members: a mayor and six council members.
The last day to register to vote is Oct. 9. Early voting will begin Oct. 22 and end Nov. 2. Voting locations will be scattered throughout the city limits.
