UT soccer team adds to home streak
The Texas Longhorns soccer team defeated UT-Rio Grande Valley 2-1 Friday night at Myers Stadium, extending its home nonconference winning streak to 15 games.
Katie Glenn scored in the 74th minute to put Texas in the lead for good after UT-Rio Grande Valley tied the game in the second half.
“She has a true instinct in and around the box,” head coach Angela Kelly said of Glenn on the team’s Twitter page.
The win keeps Texas undefeated on the season, improving its record to 7-0-1.
All goals were scored in the second half, as Texas created many chances. “We put ourselves in good spaces,” Kelly said.
Texas had a shot advantage of 17-7 in the contest.
After a scoreless first half, Haley Berg got Texas on the scoreboard. She connected from about 10 yards out with help from Cyera Hintzen and Glenn in the 55th minute.
Shentatious Knox tied the game in the 72nd minute with an assist from Diandra Aliaga.
Nicole Curry faced just two shots on goal and recorded a save. The Longhorns put 10 shots on frame as Kinga Szemik made eight saves for UT-Rio Grande Valley.
Glenn put Texas in position to win when she found herself wide open in front of the net. Hintzen’s cross found the head of Cameron Brooks, who knocked the ball to Glenn. The senior put the ball in the net to lift Texas to the win.
The Longhorns next host Northern Colorado Sunday at 5 p.m. before starting conference play.
