UT soc­cer team adds to home streak

The Texas Longhorns soc­cer team de­feated UT-Rio Grande Val­ley 2-1 Fri­day night at My­ers Sta­dium, ex­tend­ing its home non­con­fer­ence win­ning streak to 15 games.

Katie Glenn scored in the 74th minute to put Texas in the lead for good af­ter UT-Rio Grande Val­ley tied the game in the sec­ond half.

“She has a true in­stinct in and around the box,” head coach An­gela Kelly said of Glenn on the team’s Twit­ter page.

The win keeps Texas un­de­feated on the sea­son, im­prov­ing its record to 7-0-1.

All goals were scored in the sec­ond half, as Texas created many chances. “We put our­selves in good spaces,” Kelly said.

Texas had a shot ad­van­tage of 17-7 in the con­test.

Af­ter a score­less first half, Ha­ley Berg got Texas on the score­board. She con­nected from about 10 yards out with help from Cy­era Hintzen and Glenn in the 55th minute.

Shen­ta­tious Knox tied the game in the 72nd minute with an as­sist from Dian­dra Aliaga.

Ni­cole Curry faced just two shots on goal and recorded a save. The Longhorns put 10 shots on frame as Kinga Szemik made eight saves for UT-Rio Grande Val­ley.

Glenn put Texas in po­si­tion to win when she found her­self wide open in front of the net. Hintzen’s cross found the head of Cameron Brooks, who knocked the ball to Glenn. The se­nior put the ball in the net to lift Texas to the win.

The Longhorns next host North­ern Colorado Sun­day at 5 p.m. be­fore start­ing con­fer­ence play.
