Cruz offers up another lie

Re: Sept. 18 article, “Searching for new wedge issue, Cruz says O’Rourke will ban barbecue.”

Rafael “Ted” Cruz is at it again, telling lies to further his cause, pretending he’s only joking when he knows his lies will be accepted as truth by many who listen to him.

That’s what bullies do, they tell lies about people and insult folks and then when called on their behavior say things like, “I was only joking. Can’t you take a joke?” But the damage has already been done, others have already heard the lie or insult and are anxious to believe it. They never hear the part where the person says, “I was only joking. Can’t you take a joke?”

The people who heard the initial claim had a negative impression of someone they already don’t like reinforced with new information, so they stopped listening to anything which conflicts with their negative bias. Cruz has this down to an art. PHILIP BOWDEN, AUSTIN
