An appeal to vote for longshot O’Rourke

Austin American-Statesman Sunday - - VIEWPOINTS -

I was born a second-class citizen in apartheid South Africa. For three generations we were told it would be a longshot for a black man to be president of South Africa. In 1994, I voted for Mandela — the longshot. We changed the political landscape for a nation.

For over 200 years, we were told an African-American would never be president. They said it would be a longshot. In 2008, I voted for Obama — the longshot. We again changed the history of what was possible in this great nation.

In 2018, on Nov. 6, I will be voting for Beto — the longshot. Join me in changing the landscape of Texas politics. I was born a second-class citizen deprived of representation. If you do not go to the polls this November, you choose to be a second-class citizen. Every Texan deserves a voice. CHANDA PARBHOO, DALLAS
