More materials OK’D for curbside recycling
Officials with the Austin Resource Recovery department announced Thursday an expansion of the curbside recycling program.
It now takes aluminum baking tins, trays, pie tins, and cleaned balled aluminum foil in the blue recycling bins.
Courtney Black, a spokeswoman with the department, said the city plans to add a new recyclable item to the recycling list each year. will perform as a part of the second Toys for Tejanitos fundraiser, benefiting the River City Youth Foundation.
The event will help more than 2,500 children in East and Southeast Austin during the holidays, a news release said.
Toys for Tejanitos is scheduled at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Texas Club Bar and Grill, 4914 Burleson Road.
The Pflugerville City Council unanimously gave initial approval on Tuesday to shifting responsibility for food establishment inspections from Williamson County to the city.
Earlier this year, Williamson County and Cities Health District officials told Pflugerville officials that they would no longer provide food establishment inspections for Pflugerville as of Jan. 1.
An agenda item said district officials made the request because they will no longer do contract work outside Williamson County.
Pflugerville officials have been negotiating to expand the role of Bureau Veritas, which handles commercial building plan review for the city.
Westlake High School Pottery will host the Artisan Handmade Market art festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
The festival features a variety of professional artists and their work. There will also be live music and a silent auction.
