Texas AG’S wife to talk at GOP Women’s Club

The Williamson County Republican Women’s Club will host Cecilia Abbott, wife of Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott, at it’s next meeting.

She is an accomplish­ed educator, school principal and managing director of community relations at Harden Healthcare. Abbott will also induct the club’s 2013 officers at the meeting.

She will speak during the club’s year-end finale Wednesday at the Williamson Conference Center, located behind the Wingate Hotel at 1209 N. Interstate 35. Tickets range from $16 to $20 and include lunch. Doors open at 11 a.m.

The Round Rock Public Library, 216 E. Main St., is celebratin­g the city’s 100th anniversar­y with a photo exhibit featuring images of past and current residents during December.

The images from the Williamson Museum also depict industries and events in Round Rock’s history including the cheese factory and the 1922 snowstorm, according to a news release.

More than 60,000 lights will light up the Heritage Oak Tree during the Cedar Park Holiday Tree Lighting and Santa’s workshop.

The tree lighting begins at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 8 in Heritage Oak Park, 875 Quest Parkway, with Santa’s Workshop following at 6:45 p.m. The event will also have free carriage rides, live music, $3 photos with Santa and more.

The Georgetown Police Department Blue Santa program will collect toy donations during the Christmas Stroll Parade at noon Saturday.

The program accepts donations of new, unwrapped toys. The parade will take place on Church Street and Austin Avenue.

The deadline to apply for receiving gifts from Blue Santa is Dec. 8, and applicatio­ns are available at the Georgetown Police Department, 809 Martin Luther King, Jr St. or at The Caring Place, 2000 Railroad St.

The Hutto Economic Developmen­t Corp. has announced that Executive Director Scott Martinez will be resigning from his position to take a job as the president of the North Louisiana Economic Partnershi­p.

The corporatio­n is a city board whose members are appointed by the City Council. The board will develop a transition plan to replace Martinez during the next few weeks, a news release said.
