Couple struggle with health

Caring

company.

When the couple became part of Season for Caring, which features 12 families nominated from local nonprofit agencies, they put vet care on their wish list.

Thundering Paws had started a program about six months ago to help people with low incomes receive vet care.

Zabolio says that program started organically when people came to her to surrender a kitten because they couldn’t afford the care she needed. Later another couple came to Thundering Paws ready to surrender a dog because they couldn’t afford its shots.

Thundering Paws works with partner veterinarians and uses donations to be able to keep pets with people who love them but cannot afford their care. Zabolio will pick up Townsend and Haltom’s pets next week and get their dog, Murphy, fixed and all three pets will get an examination to make sure they are healthy and up to date on their vaccines.

If the pets need more care, Thundering Paws will figure out a way to get that done too. Zabolio says, “We have to take it piece by piece like we do every animal that comes to us.”

More good things are coming the couple’s way. About 10 to 15 members of Capital City Men’s Chorus are planning to give a private concert for Townsend and Haltom closer to the holidays. Another donor is buying them a computer.
