Longhorn squad has easy time in match

Texas (24-4) advances to play a familiar foe, longtime rival Texas A&M, in a second-round match tonight at 7 p.m. The Aggies beat North Carolina State in four games in Thursday early match to earn a shot at the Longhorns.

The winner tonight advances to the Austin Regional, which will be held next Friday and Saturday in Gregory Gym.

Bailey Webster ripped 15 kills to lead the Horns’ attack while Khat Bell had 12 kills and Sha’Dare McNeal and Haley Eckerman – the Big 12 player of the year – had eight kills apiece. Hannah Allison distribute­d 41 of Texas’s 47 assists and had three service aces.

“We were able to keep things simple and that allowed us to work on the little things,” Allison said.

Colgate, the champion of the Patriot League, had only one more kill as a team (16) than Webster had individual­ly. The Raiders (17-15) were led by Diane Seely’s five kills.

There was little doubt about how this match would go from its first point, after which, by the way, was the only time Colgate led in any of the sets. Texas was up 4-2 when it came time for Allison’s serve, and the Horns ran off 10 straight points before Colgate could manage a side out.
