Mothers Against Drunk Driving and others to urge drivers to take safety precautions on area roadways.

Throughout December, law enforcement officers in Travis County will hand out red fliers during traffic stops featuring Austin teens Mayra Vega and Emmanuel Hernandez, who were killed in a 2006 drunken driving crash on their way home from a school event.

Austin police say they will continue enforcement of their “Home for the Holidays” initiative, which designates every nonpatrol officer to participate in at least one eight-hour patrol shift focusing on traffic violation enforcements. The effort runs through New Year’s Day.

Police also will enforce their “no-refusal” initiative on the last weekend of the year, allowing officers to obtain blood search warrants on drunken driving suspects who refuse to give a breath or blood sample.

DPS officials say they will also boost patrols from Dec. 21 to Jan. 1 through overtime shifts and increased staffing on the actual holidays, said trooper Robbie Barrera. less) time after time. It is a work of art!!”

(FYI, though a CHL holder, I am largely gun ignorant and have no idea what he’s talking about.)

Miller also recalled that Perry, in a 2010 campaign video, called going to a shooting range “my form of golf.”

“I’m still trying to get a hole in one — five rounds in the same hole — but I haven’t quite got there yet,” Perry said on the video. “I think a 5.56 is my best. For me, it’s really relaxing.”

Perry’s enjoyment of firearms is sincere. I have no problem with lawabiding citizens owning and using firearms. Some people don’t understand other people’s fascination with guns. I don’t understand other people’s fascination with golf.

What’s next? Am I going to find out the Longhorns are not the finest college football team in the land?
