Council approves La Frontera road work City offering free holiday tree recycling
City Council members unanimously approved a contract related to Phase 2 of the La Frontera area road improvement project at their Dec. 6 meeting.
Council members voted 6-0 to enter into a $324,515 contract with Kennedy Consulting, Ltd. for engineering services on the project. The contract covers a period from January 2013 to Nov. 3, 2014.
The first phase of the project rebuilt much of La Frontera and Hester’s Crossing boulevards in the southwestern portion of town. Improvements were needed, according to city officials, because of poor soil conditions and water infiltration of the hilly roadways.
Kennedy will be tasked with designing improvements for remaining streets in the La Frontera area, including Sundance Parkway, Kouri Drive and Parker Drive. Kennedy handled engineering services for Phase 1 of the project.
A 200-day construction phase of the latest portion is scheduled to begin in January 2014.
The Leander Parks and Recreation Department is offering free recycling of live Christmas trees from Dec. 26 to Jan. 13.
Trees must be cleared of all decorations before being recycled and can be dropped off at Robin Bledsoe Park, 601 S. Bagdad Road. The city will use the recycled trees as mulch in its parks. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 512-5289909.
