The board also approved Monday:

Continuing its partnership with Responsive Education Solutions for an alternative graduation program at Travis and Lanier high schools.

■ Expanding the district’s Spanish-English dual language programs into more elementary schools and into middle schools, as well as expanding Mandarin Chinese into the middle school level.

■ Enhancing the district’s fine arts program by putting in place the Any Given Child initiative, which joins the city and the school district to create arts-rich schools.

Earlier in the meeting, Board President Vincent Torres announced trustees will bring the proposal for an all-boys school back in January, saying he didn’t mean to postpone the option “indefinitely” at an earlier December meeting. parents took their children to school and never to see them again is not right, and we have to do everything that we can to make sure that those types of evil are restricted the best that it can be,” said the governor.

He said that tragedy was a stunning reminder that “life is precious and we just need to remember to share with our loved ones just how much we love them.”

The newly elected officials on hand only briefly referred to the Connecticut shootings.

But what they did say was in line with Perry’s suggestion that new guncontrol laws were not the answer.

“It’s a terrible thing for a community to have to deal with,” said Stephanie Klick, the representativeelect from District 91.

“That being said, we still have a right to protect ourselves.”

“We can’t legislate away evil,” said state Rep.-elect Giovanni Capriglione, who will represent House District 98 in Austin.
