Capital Metro and the Austin Police Department are coming together again to offer free fare on New Year’s Eve.

In 2011, the two entities partnered to offer free fares on Capital Metro’s late night bus on New Year’s Eve, but this year the partnership has expanded the free fares from 6 p.m. to the end of Capital Metro’s service on Monday.

“Public transit is another great option to make sure folks are getting home safely this New Year’s Eve instead of getting behind the wheel drunk and driving,” said Police Chief Art Acevedo in a news release.

Capital Metro offers five Night Owl routes that run from Sixth Street and Congress to various neighborhoods from midnight through 3 a.m., and its Metro Rail service will run its regular weekday service Monday. Capital Metro will not offer E-Bus service Monday. Jan. 14 in the board room of district headquarters, 1111 W. Sixth St.

Speakers may sign up starting at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 14 in the administration center at district headquarters. For more information, contact call 414-9732.

The City of Pflugerville is offering Christmas tree recycling from through Jan. 13 at the Wells Point Park Soccer fields at Heatherwilde and Olympic drives.

Residents can unload trees at the south end of the parking lot. Remove all decorations and the Christmas tree stand before recycling. The trees will be recycled into mulch, which is offered free all year at the Recycling Center. (Do not bring trees to the Recycling Center). Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 990-6355 for information.

The Pflugerville Community Library will close for construction from Jan. 13-18. During this time, library cardholders can continue their reading by using the library’s overdrive system to download books to computer or other electronic devices. The library will host a preview of its new expansion from 1 to 6 p.m. Jan. 19.
