Lundquist to get Vin Scully Award
Verne Lundquist will receive the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting.
The longtime CBS Sports broadcaster for college football and NCAA basketball will be honored May 8 in New York. Lundquist also provides commentary for the Masters and PGA Championship.
Lundquist first joined CBS Sports in 1982, and was inducted into the National Sportscaster and Sportswriters Hall of Fame in 2007. The award is named for the longtime Dodgers broadcaster.

College tennis: Notre Dame senior Matt Dooley, 22, disclosed he is gay this week and hopes the revelation will help others struggling with their sexuality. Dooley, who says he has received “overwhelmingly positive” feedback since disclosing publicly on Monday in an article posted on Outsports, revealed his sexuality to the team Sept. 16, the two-year anniversary of his suicide attempt.
Iditarod: Sled dog musher Scott Janssen was flown to an Anchorage hospital after a harrowing ordeal that included crashing his sled, hitting his head on a stump and later falling through ice and breaking his ankle. Janssen said he laid unconscious for more than two hours after the crash. Four-time champion Jeff King was first to Thursday’s checkpoint in Ruby. Just 56 teams remain as 13 have left the race.
