The Statesman reported last week that more than $20,000 worth of office decor — from desk lamps to pillows — had been purchased by the University of Texas athletic department from a company co-owned by Randa Ryan, an adviser in the department. “The Office of Internal Audit has started the review,” UT athletic department spokesman Nick Voinis said.

Haley Bonds: Do they not have an ethics department?

Estaven Shepard: Oh, like that has never happened before.

Annmarie Vasquez Aksland: I’ve never been in an office that has pillows let alone 16!!!

Judy Keown: What is the fascination with expensive pillows? Who pays $156 for a pillow? Oh, UT ... never mind. Conflict of interest pure and simple.

Robbie Serpico: With all of the “glowing awards/reports” about her help with athletes’ academic grades, which is wonderful by the way, she’ll probably get a “now now” lecture. It’s so sad that we never hear about honest people. It’s always the ones intent on feathering their own nest.

Mary Ann Fulton Mattis: Her salary is $200,000 and she’s making MORE money from the university off of her private business? How greedy.
