Petersen’s single lifts Express

Bryan Petersen’s twoout single with the bases loaded in the ninth gave Round Rock a 3-2 victory over the Memphis Redbirds on Monday night in Memphis, Tenn.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Express (19-18).

Round Rock’s Daniel McCutchen had his best start of the season, holding the Redbirds to one run on six hits with five strikeouts in five innings.

Daniel Robertson led off the game with a homer for Round Rock.

The Express went up 2-0 in the fourth when Brad Snyder, who had reached third on a throwing error, scored on a wild pitch by Jaime Garcia. The Express had just three hits off Garcia through five innings.

McCutchen held the Redbirds to four hits and no runs through four in- nings, then gave up a solo homer to Ed Easley in the fifth. Jermaine Curtis hit an RBI double in the sixth off Express reliever Jose Monegro to tie the game at 2.

The two teams’ bullpens shut down the scoring for two innings until Petersen’s game-winner.
