Two women got out in time. One didn’t.

A homeless man is accused of three carjackings in the span of six days last month, each time forcing his way into a woman’s car as shewas leaving a parking lot.

The first victim was raped, while the next two managed to escape before witnesses and a discarded beer can led police to Bruce David Innes.

Police say Innes, 48, approached the first woman at an unspecified time April 23, while she was getting in her car outside an H-E-B grocery store at 1434 Wells Branch Parkway in Pfluger-

The man pulled a large knife and told the woman to move over to the passenger side of the car, a warrant said.

He then drove her 23 miles away to an area off Texas 195 in Georgetown where he sexually assaulted her several times, according to the warrant.

The woman escaped near Texas 195 and Shell Road, police said.

He fled in her car and used her credit cards that day at several locations, the warrant said.

Austin police later found her car when they towed it April 26 from an illegal parking location.

The woman told investigators at the Williamson County Sheriff ’s Office that her attacker had tattoos on his arms and a “conspicuous round tattoo” on his chest.

A homeless man who frequented the H-E-B area told investigators April 24 that a man named “Bruce” had tattoos that matched the description the victim gave, the warrant said.

He also said “Bruce” carried a large knife and had “told him he had spent about 23 years in prison for burglaries and was released around two years ago,” the warrant said.

Another homeless man helped an investigator find a beer can that the attacker had been drinking from before the abduction happened, the warrant said.

At some point in the investigation, authorities determined the beer can had Innes’ fingerprints on it, the warrant said.

Meanwhile, Innes attacked another woman April 25 at the Capital Metro Park and Ride complex at 900 Center Ridge Drive in Austin, a warrant said.

The woman called Austin police around 2:15 p.m., saying she was starting her car when a man approached her, asking for a ride, the warrant said.

She refused, but he opened the front driver’s door, climbed on top of her and took her cellphone and pepper spray, the warrant said.

She opened the front passenger door and ran away, the warrant said.

The man then drove away in her car, the warrant said.

While police were investigating that carjacking they found out about a similar incident that happened about 1 p.m. April 28.

A woman was sitting inside her vehicle preparing to leave from a Murphy’s gas station at 1030 Norwood Park in Austin when a man approached her and shoved her toward the passenger side, the warrant said.

She kicked him and escaped through the front passenger door, the warrant said.

The man was unable to start the car, so he got out and yelled at the woman to give him some money, the warrant said.

He ran off, and police arrested Innes nearby a short time later, the warrant said.

The affidavit did not say how police found him, but it said Innes confessed to the attempted carjacking at the gas station.

Innes was being held in the Travis County Jail on Monday night on multiple charges including two counts of robbery by assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, credit card abuse, aggravated robbery, three counts of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping.
