Former Lake Travis offensive coordinator Matt Green has been named the lone finalist to become Marble Falls High’s next football coach. A vote on his possible hiring has been scheduled for Monday, when the Marble Falls school board holds its regular meeting.

Green, 37, has spent the past two seasons as the head coach at Lucas Lovejoy, posting a 19-5 record. The Leopards finished 8-4 this past season, reaching the area round of the Class 4A, Division II playoffs for the second straight year.

During Green’s three seasons as Lake Travis’ offensive coordinator from 2008-10, the Cavaliers averaged 44.5 points per game. Lake Travis also won Class 4A state championships in each of those seasons.

Marble Falls and Lake Travis were District 25-4A rivals during Green’s time with the Cavaliers. Lake Travis totaled 151 points in Green’s three games against the Mustangs.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to come back to the Hill Country,” Green said. “I always thought they had good players (at Marble Falls), and I always thought they played hard ... Marble Falls hasn’t been bad, they haven’t been great. They’ve been average, and they’re looking to get over that hump.”

Green left Lake Travis when his then-wife Julie became the volleyball coach at Coppell after she led the Cavaliers to the Class 4A state title in 2010. The couple has since divorced.

“I think that I’ve grown a lot,” Green said. “There are some experiences that you can’t get unless you’re a head coach.”

Green would replace Todd Dodge on the sidelines at Marble Falls. Earlier this month, Dodge left for Westlake High after two 4-6 seasons with the Mustangs.

At Marble Falls, Green would inherit a team that scored 39.7 points per game in 2013. Mustang tight end Hanner Shipley has committed to LSU while sophomore quarterback Brennen Wooten, who’s coming off a 3,000-yard passing season, has received scholarship offers from Akron and Clemson.
