THURSDAY NIGHT REWIND

-

GAME OF THE NIGHT

Georgetown 59, Hays 30

Wearing new black pants for the first time, Georgetown fashioned a dominating victory over visiting Hays. Junior quarterback Chandler Herman accounted for four firsthalf touchdowns — two rushing, two passing — and senior Dakota Cahill ran for four scores as the Eagles extended their winning streak in nondistrict contests to 16.

“They feel good,” Herman said of the Eagles’ new pants. “They look good, too.”

With his team trailing by three points, Herman added his second touchdown run of the game to lift the Eagles to a 24-20 lead with 1:52 to play in the first half.

Georgetown’s defense held on to the ensuing possession for Hays but a 69-yard punt pinned the Eagles at their 2. One play later, however, Georgetown’s Jo’vonta Grimble turned a Herman toss into a 98-yard touchdown catch.

Hays fumbled away the ensuing kickoff and Georgetown punctuated its scoring flurry with a sixplay touchdown drive. Grimble outjumped a Hays defender in the end zone to snag a pass from Herman, and that score with six seconds remaining sent Georgetown to the locker room with an 18-point advantage.

The Eagles (2-0) added two touchdown runs by Cahill during the first seven minutes of the second half. Cahill also accounted for Georgetown’s last touchdown on a 45-yard run with 11:19 to play in the game.

Cahill finished with 145 yards rushing on 15 carries, and 112 of Herman’s 226 yards passing were corralled by Grimble. Dating back to the 2014 season, Georgetown has now totaled 275 points in its past five games at the Georgetown ISD Athletic Complex.

Hays (1-1) was led by senior quarterback Braeden Kent, who had 234 yards passing and a team-high 98 yards rushing. Kent threw two touchdown passes to teammate Duston Bruno.
