Right shin lands Yankees’ Teixeira on DL

-

The New York Yankees put first baseman Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list Friday because of a bruised right shin. The move was made retroactive to Aug. 27.

“I can’t tell you when we’re going to get him back,” manager Joe Girardi said.

Teixeira, 35, leads the Yankees with 31 homers.

Also, left-hander CC Sabathia pitched a simulated game without any pain in his right knee and could rejoin the Yankees’ rotation on Wednesday.

Orioles: Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis. Also, righthander Mike Wright was activated off the 15-day DL and will start against Toronto today.

Indians: Ace Corey Kluber was scratched from his scheduled start Friday because of a strained right hamstring.

Cubs: Rookie OF/C Kyle Schwarber is expected to miss three to five days because of a mild rib cage strain. He hopes to return on Monday at St. Louis.

Astros: Outfielder George Springer was activated from the 15-day disabled list. Springer has been out with a right wrist fracture since July 2, a day after he was hit by a pitch against the Royals.

Nationals: Righthander Tanner Roark was recalled from Triple-A.

Dodgers: Shortstop Corey Seager had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored twice in his major league debut during Thursday night’s 10-7 loss to the Padres.

Giants: Pitcher Ryan Vogelsong hit his first career homer in Thursday night’s loss to the Rockies. At 38 years, 43 days, he is the oldest player in franchise history to hit his first home run. “I knew I hit it good, but when you don’t have one, you don’t ever know,” he said.
