■ Billy Childs’ “Map to the Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro” at Bass Concert Hall. Few 20th-century songwriters scaled the heights reached by the late Laura Nyro, who died from cancer in 1997 at age 49 but left behind an extraordinary catalogue of material that proved extraordinarily popular with the masses even as it pressed far beyond the bounds of musical conventionality. Among those deeply affected by her work in his youth was pianist Billy Childs, who went on to win multiple Grammys as a composer and arranger. At this show, which kicks off Texas Performing Arts’ 201516 season, Childs is joined by renowned singers Dianne Reeves, Becca Stevens and Alicia Olatuja, along with UT’s Cordova Quartet, in bringing Nyro’s songbook back to life. $36-45. 8 p.m. Thursday. 2350 Robert Dedman Drive. texasperformingarts.org.
