Here’s a look at the most interesting new releases available to rent from cable and digital providers and a few titles that are hitting streaming services this week.

Video on demand

“Addicted To Fresno”: Since her 1999 cult classic “But I’m A Cheerleader,” director Jamie Babbit has spent most of her time working on television shows like “Drop Dead Diva” and “Girls.” She reunites with “Cheerleader” star Natasha Lyonne for this bawdy comedy that also features Judy Greer, Aubrey Plaza, Molly Shan- non and Fred Armisen. After debuting at SXSW earlier this year under the shortened title “Fresno,” the distributor has given it a more VOD-friendly name to ensure it’s at the top of your rental options. (Cable & digital VOD)

“Dragon Blade”: Already a massive blockbuster in its native China, where it was released in IMAX 3D, this historical war epic finds Jackie Chan sharing the screen with John Cusack and Adrien Brody (who play brothers who are Roman generals). Seriously. Here, the film is only earning a cursory theatrical release, but genre fans who don’t live in those few select markets are now able to watch it from the comfort of home. Available via streaming

“Black or White”: In the new drama that explores cul- tural identity from Mike Binder (“The Upside Of Anger”), Kevin Costner stars as a man who finds himself embroiled in a custody battle with Octavia Spencer over their biracial granddaughter. Many of the critical notices for the film praised the performances, while expressing disappointment in how the sensitive storyline is handled, despite what were certainly the best of intentions. (Netflix)

“Ride”: After turning in one of the best performances of her career in “The Sessions,” Helen Hunt went to work writing the screenplay for this coming-of-age story that would end up becoming her second directorial effort. Proving herself to be a triple threat, she tackles the lead role of Jackie, a mother who travels across the country to be with her son after he drops out of school to become a surf- er. Luke Wilson also turns up in a supporting role as a surf instructor. (Netflix)

“The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet”: The release of this English-language family drama starring Helena Bonham Carter was effectively doomed by public comments made by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (“Amelie”) regarding Harvey Weinstein’s interference with his final cut.

For now, the story of a young boy in rural Montana who runs away and takes a cross-country train has been unceremoniously dumped onto Amazon’s streaming service without an accompanying home video release.

Originally released in 3D in other territories, the film won best cinematography at the Cesar Awards in France. (Amazon Prime)
