5 THINGS TO WATCH IN TUESDAY’S REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
The fourth Republican presidential debate is 8 p.m. Tuesday in Milwaukee and broadcast on Fox Business Network. The debate time has been pruned to 90 minutes, and the crew of candidates on the main stage winnowed to eight: Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich and Rand Paul. Chris Christie and Mike Huckabee have been kicked to the 6 p.m. undercard debate with Bobby Jindal and Rick Santorum. For comprehensive coverage, visit statesman.com.
Here are five things to watch in the main event:
1. All eyes on Ben:
Carson has blamed media bias for a barrage of coverage impugning the accuracy of biographical stories he’s told. Can he keep his cool?
2. CNBC took a beating for the last Republican debate:
Expect Fox Business anchors Maria Bartiromo and Neil Cavuto and Wall Street Journal Editor-in-Chief Gerard Baker to be tough but fair.
3. Cruz vs. Rubio:
Each eyes the other as his ultimate adversary. Look for Cruz to tag Rubio a “moderate,” and Rubio to offer a rapier reply.
4. Tuesday Night Live:
Trump’s hosting SNL got lousy reviews but yuge ratings. Is he still the star of the GOP show?
5. There are four others:
Paul, Kasich, Fiorina and Bush have to prove they are marquee players.
